URBAN PEAK — A Timeline
1988 - Urban Peak begins as drop-in center for youth.
1989 - The Colorado Coalition for the Homeless names Urban Peak the “Program of the Year,”
1990 - The Colorado Juvenile Council recognizes Urban Peak as “Outstanding Program of the Year.”
1991 - Urban Peak is a national model for HIV education.
1992 - Urban Peak incorporates and provides shelter services.
1993 - First full year of providing wrap-around services.
1994 - The Spot is founded after the Summer of Violence.
1995 - The Spot receives the Downtown Denver Award
1996 - To meet increase demand for services, Capital
Campaign is launched for building of the Shelter.
1997 - Homeless Act declares homeless youth a class of citizen.
1998 - Shelter and other operations move South Acoma. Urban Peak Housing Corporation is established.
1999 - Urban Peak became the first and only agency to be a licensed homeless youth shelter in the State of Colorado.

2000 - Urban Peak Colorado Springs (UPCS) opens.
2001 - Urban Peak offers housing for youth aging out of foster care through Rocky Mountain International Youth House.
2002 - Urban Peak receives the 2002 Martin Luther King Jr. Social Responsibility Award. The Spot is named “Non-Profit of the Year” by the Denver Metro Chamber of Commerce.
2003 - Merging of UP Denver, UP Colorado Springs, UP Housing Corporation and The Spot.
2004 - Urban Peak coordinates their first multi-city health survey of homeless and runaway youth.
2005 - Urban Peak affiliates in Denver are consolidated into one organization, Urban Peak Denver.
2006 - New branding. New mssion.
2007 - Kay Ramachandran named CEO. Urban Peak presents symposium on mental health/substance abuse issues .
