Urban peak - Housing

"Before I came here I was sleeping in a bus stop. Now it's warm and safe. I like it here." - LaDonna

Urban Peak develops, owns, and manages housing to assist youth transition from homelessness to responsible, independent living. Urban Peak identifies the resources and partnerships necessary to provide housing, and adds to the pool of affordable housing options for at-risk and homeless youth.  Each program provides wrap around supportive services, including case management and health care.

URBAN PEAK HOUSING PROGRAMS

Urban Peak Housing Program Provides a Big Step Forward to Exiting the Streets

In 2009, Urban Peak provided housing for 160 youth.

Urban Peak operates three housing units and offers other housing options for homeless youth. Each option has different qualifications and services to meet the specific needs of the individual young person.

ROCKY MOUNTAIN YOUTH HOUSING
The Rocky Mountain Youth Housing program is a collaboration between Urban Peak and the Denver Department of Human Services (DDHS) to provide transitional housing and case management services to homeless youth and youth who are aging out of the custody of DDHS.
The goal of the program is to teach young people to sustain housing and to improve their independent living skills in a stable, supportive environment. Rocky Mountain houses up to 35 young people, ages 16-23, in a single apartment complex. The length of the program is 18 months. Most youth are working or in school full time (or part time in both) and most exit the program into their own apartments in the community.

Last year, 78% of youth exited from Urban Peak housing programs into safe and stable housing.

STAR HOUSING
The STAR (Starting Transition and Recovery) Apartments provide 12 units of permanent housing to youth with substance addictions or dual-diagnosis of substance addiction and mental health issues. Services are provided in conjunction with The Council on Substance Abuse and Mental Health. Services include personalized case management, intensive outpatient treatment for
addiction recovery and mental illnesses, education and employment training, and health care as needed.

ROWAN GARDENS HOUSING
Rowan Gardens Apartments provide 18 units of permanent housing to homeless youth with disabilities, including physical disabilities and mental illnesses ranging from depression to schizophrenia.
Urban Peak provides personalized case management, education and employment training, mental health and substance abuse treatment, and health care are services through the Rowan Gardens program.

FAMILY UNIFICATION PROGRAM
Our Family Unification Program (FUP) was created for young people who were in the custody of the Department of Human Services at age 16 or older and who are currently between 18 and 22 years old. It is designed to assist youth with a supportive transitional housing program that bridges the gap between social services and independent living.

PARTNERS IN THE PROCESS
We have many incredible partners as we seek to find appropriate, safe housing options for the youth at Urban Peak and new opportunities within our community. Some of the organizations we work with include Volunteers of America, Denver Department of Human Services, Denver’s Road Home, Housing & Urban Development, Mile High United Way’s Bridging the Gap, Family Tree, and Third Way Center.
